SNMP is an application-layer protocol that provides a message format for communication between SNMP managers (clients) and agents (servers).
The SNMP system consists of three parts:
- An SNMP manager
- An SNMP agent
- An MIB
The SNMP manager can be part of a Network Management System. The agent and MIB reside on the Turbo Router server to monitor. To configure SNMP on Turbo Router, you have to define the relationship between the manager and the agent.
Turbo Router implements versions 1, 2 and 3 of the SNMP protocol. The Turbo Router agent only monitors software components running in vrf0.
This chapter describes how to configure SNMP and how to use the different MIBs supported by Turbo Router.
